CAGE Hockey is an alternative to suspension that can be used by parents, care givers, schools or minor hockey associations. It is a strength-based program that uses the great sport of hockey to connect with youth dealing with issues at school, anger, aggression, or addiction.
Courage is the spark that ignites all great things. Attitude is everything. Growth is life. Endurance is the ability to keep going.
CAGE Hockey represents the belief that young people have strengths, resources and the ability to recover from adversity. Youth participants and families begin to see opportunities, hope and solutions rather than just problems and hopelessness.
Five Core Principles of CAGE Hockey
- Every young person has potential and it is their unique strengths that will determine their evolving story and define who they really are - not their limitations.
- We focus on strength, not labels.
- All individuals have the urge to succeed.
- Positive change occurs in the context of authentic relationships - we use the language and spirit of hockey to make that connection.
- Effective change is a collaborative and inclusive process - "It takes an arena to raise a child."
The program consists of (1) 50 minute On-Ice Session (2) 50 minute workshop (3) On-Going Tutoring Sessions.
